An illustrated talk around three programmes I have made for the bbc and itv about the revival of steam railways and steam engines in Britain since the 1950s including the rebuilding of Flying Scotsman. The films and the talk are full of wonderful characters and the incredible stories they tell about how they managed to rescue so many steam engines that were meant for the scrap heap.

I illustrate these stories with glorious colour film of steam engines on the move, shot by the enthusiasts themselves, along with rare film of the rebuilding of Flying Scotsman shot by me for the TV programme I made.

In the session I show some of these clips and talk about how I made the films, some of the problems, as well as the joys, I encountered and what it was like working with the star presenters, Robson Green and Michael Portillo.
